Here are a few ideas from San Francisco-based firm John Lum Architecture, which has completed more than 400 projects over the past 15 years.
In this residence, a third floor with panoramic views of the bay and ten-foot ceilings was added. Two glass rooms flank a master bathroom and master closet, and connect to the lower floor with a new staircase.
This remodel of a 70s residence became a study in contemporary minimalism. The kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom were compacted into a maple cube to make way for a dining room with a view.
Another addition built on the clients’ existing Japanese theme. The courtyard is rock garden. Doors and fittings add to the authentic Asian look.
